Privacy policy
Trovin helps students after Class 10 make career decisions. This policy explains what we collect, why we need it, and the choices you have — especially if you are under 18.
Last updated: 22 May 2026
Our commitment
We built Trovin because career guidance in India is often biased, sales-driven, or shallow. Your data exists only to help you make a better decision — not to sell you to colleges or coaching institutes.
This policy applies to trovin.in and related services operated by Trovin (Ahmedabad, India). By using Trovin, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Who we are
Trovin is operated from Ahmedabad, India. For privacy questions, data requests, or complaints, contact us at hello@trovin.in. We will respond within a reasonable time, and no later than required under applicable law.
Who this policy covers
Trovin is designed for students around ages 15–18, typically after Class 10. Most users are minors under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).
Parents and guardians may receive links to view results or provide consent when those features are enabled. This policy covers students, parents, and anyone who contacts us through the site.
Information we collect
Information you provide: name, age, city, school medium, optional WhatsApp number, marks, interests, hobbies, family context, RIASEC answers, and aspiration responses (free text). If you unlock the paid tier, we collect email for verification and payment-related records.
Information generated by the service: career fit scores, AI-generated reasoning, roadmaps, and related recommendation content stored against your decision.
Technical information: session identifiers, cookies used for language preference and authentication, and basic usage data from our hosting provider (e.g. page views, performance metrics) where enabled.
We do not ask for Aadhaar, religion, caste, or political affiliation.
How we use your information
We use your data to: run the intake and RIASEC flow; build your profile; match you against our career knowledge base; generate free and paid recommendations; save your progress so you can return; process payments when you unlock; and improve the product in aggregate (never sold as individual lead lists).
AI features send relevant parts of your profile to our AI provider to generate recommendations and personalised content. We instruct the model not to invent colleges, exams, or fees, but you should still treat outputs as guidance, not guarantees.
What we never do
We do not sell your personal data. Colleges, coaching centres, and advertisers do not pay us to rank or promote paths to you. We do not run lead-generation campaigns using your intake answers.
We do not use dark patterns to hide useful free-tier information behind paywalls. The paid tier adds depth (roadmaps, extended content, and planned features such as counselor chat), not basic honesty about your top paths.
Service providers
We use trusted third parties to run Trovin. They process data only on our instructions:
• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (servers may be outside India; we choose providers with strong security practices). • Anthropic — AI recommendation and content generation when enabled. • Vercel — website hosting and Web Analytics (page views, performance). • PostHog — product analytics (funnel events, no autocapture; we do not send names, phone numbers, or marks in event data). • Razorpay — payment processing when you pay for the paid tier (payment details are handled by Razorpay under their own policy).
We may add email delivery (e.g. Resend) for parent invitations and receipts. We will update this page when we do.
Minors and parental involvement
Because many users are minors, we minimise data collection and design for family involvement. Parent email may be collected at unlock for verification and, when launched, for a parent view with explicit consent.
Parent Mode and verifiable parental consent flows described in our product roadmap will be implemented before we treat parent consent as legally complete for all processing. Until then, students should involve a parent or guardian in important decisions even when using Trovin alone.
If we detect distress signals in free-text responses, we aim to surface appropriate helpline information (such as iCALL) rather than continuing automated counselling on that topic.
How long we keep data
We keep your decision, recommendations, and profile data for as long as your account or decision remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward so you can return to your roadmap.
You may request deletion (see Your rights). After deletion, backups may retain data for a limited technical window before they are purged.
Your rights (DPDP Act)
Under India's DPDP Act, you (or your parent or guardian on your behalf) may have the right to: know what personal data we hold; correct inaccurate data; withdraw consent where processing is consent-based; and request erasure when we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it.
To exercise these rights, email hello@trovin.in from the address you used with Trovin, or ask a parent to write on your behalf. We may need to verify identity before acting on sensitive requests.
If you are unhappy with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India when that mechanism is available to you.
Security
We use industry-standard measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls on our database, and anonymous or authenticated sessions via Supabase. No system is perfectly secure; please use a private device and log out on shared computers.
Do not share your unlock OTP or payment details with anyone claiming to be Trovin support.
Contact
Privacy questions and data requests: hello@trovin.in
We are a small team and read every message. Please include enough detail for us to find your account (email used at unlock, or approximate date of intake).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Trovin grows (new features, new providers, or legal requirements). We will post the new date at the top of this page. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
